Shilling, Eric (b London, 1920). Eng. bass- baritone. Début SW 1945 (Marullo in Rigoletto). Toured as prin. bar. and prod. of Intimate Opera in such works as Hopkins's Three's Company, 1948–58. Prin. bar. SW (later ENO) from 1959 for over 30 years. Sang Count Rostov in f. Brit. p. of Prokofiev's War and Peace, 1972. Prof. of singing RCM 1964–71. Retired 1994.
