Schröder-Feinen, Ursula

Schröder-Feinen, Ursula, German soprano; b. Gelsenkirchen, July 21, 1936. She studied voice with Maria Helm in Gelsenkirchen, and took courses at the Essen Folkwangschule. She sang in the chorus of the Gelsenkirchen Opera (1958), where she made her operatic debut as Aida in 1961, and remained on its roster until 1968; then sang with the Deutsche Opera am Rhein in Düsseldorf (1968–72). On Dec. 4, 1970, she made her Metropolitan Opera debut in N.Y. as Chrysothemis in Elektra; also sang at Bayreuth, Salzburg, Milan, and Berlin. She retired in 1979. Schröder-Feinen was a versatile singer whose repertoire included major dramatic roles in German and Italian opera.
