Rendall, David , English tenor; b. London, Oct. 11, 1948. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at the Salzburg Mozarteum, hi 1975 he made his operatic debut with the Glyndebourne Touring Opera as Ferrando, and then sang for the first time at London’s Covent Garden as the Italian Singer in Der Rosenkavalier. In 1976 he made his debut at the Glyndebourne Festival as Ferrando. Following his first appearance at the English National Opera in London in 1976 as Leicester in Maria Stuarda, he made regular appearances there until 1992. In 1978 he portrayed Rodolfo at the N.Y.C. Opera and Don Ottavio at the San Francisco Opera. He sang Ernesto in Don Pasquale at his Metropolitan Opera debut in N.Y. on Feb. 28, 1980. In 1983 he appeared as Berlioz’s Faust in Lyons. He returned to the Glyndebourne Festival as Tom Rakewell in 1989. In 1992 he sang Don Antonio in the first stage production of Gerhard’s The Duenna in Madrid. In 1996 he was engaged as Hoffmann in Genoa.
