Raimondi, Ignazio
Raimondi, Ignazio , Italian violinist, conductor, and composer; b. Naples, c.1735; d. London, Jan. 14, 1813. He studied violin with Emanuele Barbella, then played in the orch. of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples (1759–62). He then was active in Amsterdam as a violinist and conductor. He settled in London (1780). Among his works was the opera La Muta (Paris, Nov. 12, 1789), 2 syms., Les Aventures de Télémaque dans l’isle de Calypso (Amsterdam, Jan. 15, 1777) and The Battle (1785), Sinfonia concertante for 2 Violins and Orch., 6 violin concertos, and much chamber music, including 27 trios and several string quartets.
