Poole, Elizabeth , English mezzo-soprano; b. London, April 5, 1820; d. Langley, Buckinghamshire, Jan. 14, 1906. She made her debut at Drury Lane in London in 1834, and then sang in Italian opera in the U.S. (appearing with Malibran). Until her retirement in 1870, she was immensely popular as a ballad singer. Balfe wrote for her ’Tis gone, the past is all a dream, which she introduced into The Bohemian Girl.
