Picker, Rudolf Von
Picker, Rudolf Von, distinguished German musicologist; b. Munich, June 11, 1886; d. Igls, near Inns bruck, Aug. 2, 1954. From 1905 to 1912 he studied at the Univ. of Vienna with Adler (musicology), and in Munich with Thuille and Courvoisier (composition). He received his Ph.D. from the Univ. of Vienna in 1913 with the diss. Die Chromatik im italienischen Madrigal des 16. Jahrhunderts. He taught at the Univ. of Innsbruck from 1920, becoming a prof, in 1923. He then taught at the Univ. of Vienna in 1927, and in 1931 at the Univ. of Munich. He was a specialist in medieval music. In addition to articles for music journals, he also left unfinished a book entitled Die Grundlagen der abendlandischen Mehrstimmigkeit.
