Partos, Ödön (b Budapest, 1907; d Tel Aviv, 1977). Hung.-Israeli composer and violist. Worked in Berlin 1928–33, Budapest, 1933–6. Settled in Palestine 1938 as prin. violist in Palestine SO (later Israel PO) until 1956. Dir., Tel Aviv Acad. of Mus. (later Rubin Acad. of Tel Aviv. Univ.) from 1951, becoming prof. there 1961. Comps. incl. Yizkor (In Memoriam), va., str. (1946); Choral Fantasia on Yemenite Jewish Themes (1946); 3 va. concs. (1949, 1957, 1962); vn. conc. (1958); Arabesque, ob. and chamber orch.
