Partenio, Gian Domenico
Partenio, Gian Domenico , Italian singer and composer; b. Spilimberg, Friuli, c. 1649; d. Venice, 1701. He pursued his career in Venice, where he was a tenor (1666–85), vicemaestro di cappella (1685–91), and maestro di cappella (from 1691) at San Marco. He also was a priest and served at the parish church of San Martino, where he formed the guild of St. Cecilia for performers and music teacher. His operas, first perf. in Venice, included Genserico (1669), Iphide greca (1671; Act 1 by Partenio, Act 2 by Freschi, and Act 3 by Sartorio), La costanza trionfante (1673), Fionisio, overo La virtù trionfante del vitio (Jan. 12, 1681; Act 1 by P. Franceschini), and Flavio Cuniberto (1682; rev. 1687). He also wrote sacred music.
