Nilsson, Christine [ Törnerhjelm, Kristina] (b Sjöabol, 1843; d Stockholm, 1921). Swed. soprano. Début Paris 1864 (Violetta in La traviata); London 1864 and sang opera regularly in London, incl. CG, until 1881 and gave farewell concert there in 1891. Created Ophelia in Thomas's Hamlet, Paris Opéra 1868. Amer. début (NY Acad. of Mus.) 1871; NY 1871–4 and 1883–4. Sang Marguerite in Faust on opening night of NY Met 1883.
