Neighbour, O(liver) W(ray)

Neighbour, O(liver) W(ray) English music bibliographer and musicologist; b. Merstham, Surrey, April 1, 1923. He pursued the study of modern languages at Birbeck Coll. (B.A., 1950). He joined the dept. of printed books at the British Museum (1946); then was on the music room staff (1951–76), subsequently serving as its superintendent (1976–85). He publ. English Music Publishers: Plate Numbers in the First Half of the Nineteenth Century (with A. Tyson; London, 1965) and Consort and Keyboard Music, vol. III of The Music of William Byrd (London, 1978); also ed. Music and Bibliography: Essays in Honour of Alec Hyatt King (London, 1980).
