Moulinié, Etienne

Moulinié, Etienne, French composer; b. Languedoc, c. 1600; d. there, after 1669. He was a child chorister at Narbonne Cathedral. In 1624 he went to Paris, where he served as director of music to the King’s younger brother, Gaston of Orléans, from 1628 to 1660. In 1661 he returned to Languedoc as director of music. Moulinié was highly regarded for his Airs de cour à 4 et 5 parties (5 vols., Paris, 1625–39). Among his other works were ballet music, dance pieces, and religious music
