Miles, Philip Napier
Miles, Philip Napier, English composer and conductor; b. Shirehampton, Jan. 21, 1865; d. King’s Weston, near Bristol, July 19, 1935. He studied in London with Parry and Dannreuther. He organized the Shirehampton Choral Soc. on his own estate and conducted festivals in various localities in England. He wrote the operas Westward Ho! (London, Dec. 4, 1914), Fire Flies (Clifton, Oct. 13, 1924; on the same program with his opera Markheim), Good Friday, Demeter, and Queen Rosamond, some chamber music, and many songs.
