Mermet, Auguste
Mermet, Auguste, French composer; b. Brussels, Jan. 5, 1810; d. Paris, July 4, 1889. He was a private pupil of Le Sueur and Halévy. His operatic spectacles à la Meyerbeer were popular in the Paris of his day but eventually were forgotten. Among his various stage works were La Banniere du Roi (Versailles, April 1835), Le Roi David (Paris, June 3, 1846), Roland a Roncevaux (Paris, Oct. 3, 1864), and Jeanne d’Arc (Paris, April 5, 1876).
