Liljefors, Ingemar (Kristian)

Liljefors, Ingemar (Kristian), Swedish pianist and composer, son of Ruben (Mattias) Liljefors; b. Göteborg, Dec. 13,1906; d. Stockholm, Oct. 14,1981. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm (1923–27; 1929–31) and in Munich (1927–29). He taught piano (1938–43) and harmony (from 1943) at the Stockholm Musikhögskolan. From 1947 to 1963 he was chairman of the Assn. of Swedish Composers. He publ. a manual on harmony from the functional point of view (1937) and one on harmonic analysis along similar lines (1951). His compositions frequently employed elements of Swedish folk music with a later infusion of some modernistic techniques.
