Lechner, Leonhard (b Adige valley, S. Tyrol, c.1553; d Stuttgart, 1606). Austrian composer. Chorister at Munich court, 1564–8, under Lassus, an edn. of whose motets he pubd. 1579. Taught in Nuremberg 1575–84. Kapellmeister at Württemberg from 1587. Comp. masses, motets, and psalms. First composer to set a complete cycle of Ger. poems to mus. (Deutsche Sprüche von Leben und Tod).
