Kullak, Franz
Kullak, Franz, German pianist, teacher, and composer, son of Theodor Kullak; b. Berlin, April 12, 1844; d. there, Dec. 9, 1913. He studied with his father and briefly with Liszt, and later with Wehle and Litolff in Paris. He was a piano teacher at his father’s academy in Berlin (1867–82), serving as director (1882–90). He then was director of his own Akademie für Höheres Klavierspiel (1891–1900). He prepared a valuable ed. of the Beethoven piano concertos, and also publ. several piano methods. He composed an opera, Ines de Castro ( Berlin, 1877), orch. works, piano pieces, and songs.
