Krieger, Armando
Krieger, Armando, Argentine pianist, conductor, and composer; b. Buenos Aires, May 7, 1940. He studied piano with John Montes and Robert Kinsky and composition with Ginastera, later with Copland, Dallapi-ccola, Maderna, R. Malipiero, and Messiaen at the Di Telia Inst. (1963–64); continued his piano training with Loriod at the Mozarteum Argentino (1964). He became widely known in his native country as a pianist and conductor, often giving performances of avant-garde music; also conducted his own chamber orch. and was active as a teacher. In his works, he adopted a serial technique in which rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic elements follow a predetermined formula of contrasts.
