Kennedy, Nigel (Paul)

Kennedy, Nigel (Paul), versatile English violinist; b. Brighton, Dec. 28, 1956. He was born into a family of cellists; at 7, he won a piano scholarship to the Yehudi Menuhin School, but soon became a prize violin student there. In 1972 he became a student of Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School in N.Y. In 1977 he made his London debut as soloist with the Philharmonia Orch., and subsequently performed throughout his homeland and on the Continent; in 1985 he made his first tour of the U.S. His interests range over the field of serious, jazz, rock, and pop music. He has been closely associated with jazz notable Stephane Grappelli and has led his own rock group.
