Karyotakis, Theodore

Karyotakis, Theodore , Greek composer; b. Argos, July 21, 1903; d. Athens, June 14, 1978. He studied with Mitropoulos (composition) and Varvoglis (counterpoint and orchestration) in Athens, and concurrently was enrolled in the law dept. of the Univ. of Athens. He wrote music in a neo- Romantic vein, permeated with euphonious dissonances. Several of his works were inspired by Greek folk modes.
