Kàan-Albest, Heinrich (originally, Jindřich z Albestů Kàan)
Kàan-Albest, Heinrich (originally, Jindřich z Albestů Kàan), Bohemian pianist and composer; b. Tarnopol, May 29, 1852; d. Roudná, March 7, 1926. He studied in Prague with Blodek and Skuherský. From 1889 he taught piano at the Prague Cons., serving as its director from 1907 to 1918. He wrote the operas Escape (1895) and Germinal, after Zola (1908), the ballets Bajaja and Olim, a symphonic poem, Sakuntala, Frühlings-Eklogen for Orch., and piano pieces.
