Jurovsky, Simon
Jurovsky, Simon, Slovak composer; b. Ulmanka, Feb. 8, 1912; d. Prague, Nov. 8, 1963. He attended the Bratislava Academy of Music (1931–36), then took courses in composition with Joseph Marx at the Vienna Academy of Music (1943–44). He was manager of the Bratislava Opera and director of the Slovak Folk Art Ensemble. In his music, he followed the broad tenets of national Romanticism, with frequent references to folk themes.
