Isabella Leonarda (real name, Isabella Calegari)
Isabella Leonarda (real name, Isabella Calegari), Italian composer; b. Novara, 1620; d. there, c. 1700. In 1636 she became a nun and entered the convent of S. Ursula in Novara. She was made its mother superior in 1686 and in 1693 she became provincial mother superior. Her solo motets are particularly well crafted. In all, she publ. over 200 works in some 20 collections (1665–1700).
