Hotman, Nicolas

Hotman, Nicolas, French viol player, theorbist, and composer of German descent; b. place and date unknown; d. April 1663. He may have studied with André Maugars and Sainte-Colombe. He was in the service of the Duke of Orléans from 1656 until entering the service of the court in 1661. Hotman composed solo pieces for lute, theorbo, and viol. Ballard publ. a posthumous vol. of his Airs à boire (Paris, 1664).
