Guyot, Jean

Guyot, Jean, South Netherlands composer, also known as Jean de Chatelet and Johannes Castileti; b. Chatelet, Hainaut, 1512; d. Liege, March 11, 1588. He was educated at the Univ. of Louvain (licencie-es-arts, 1537). In 1546 he became chaplain and maitre de chant at St. Paul’s in Liege; about 1557 he became chaplain and maitre de chant at St. Lambert Cathedral in Liege. After serving as Kapellmeister at the Imperial Court in Vienna (1563-64), he returned to St. Lambert Cathedral to take up his benefice but no longer served as maitre de chant. Among his works are a Mass, 2 Te Deums, 20 motets, and 10 chansons.
