Gedda, Giulio Cesare

Gedda, Giulio Cesare, Italian conductor and composer; b. Turin, April 16, 1899; d. Callegno, near Turin, Sept. 7, 1970. He studied composition with Alfano in Turin. He played cello and organ, and began conducting in 1932. He wrote an opera, L’amoroso fantasma (Turin, 1933), 2 violin concertos (1930, 1954), a Viola Concerto (1940), a Cello Concerto, and Concerto for 4 Saxophones (1952). He ended his days in a mental institution.
