Gatty Nicholas Comyn

Gatty, Nicholas Comyn, English composer; b. Bradfield, Sept. 13, 1874; d. London, Nov. 10, 1946. He was educated at Downing Coll., Cambridge (B.A., 1896; Mus.B., 1898), then studied with Stanford at the Royal Coll. of Music. He was organist to the Duke of York’s Royal Military School at Chelsea, and music critic of Pall Mall Gazette (1907–14). Gatty also acted as asst. conductor at Covent Garden.

DRAMATIC Opera (all 1st perf. in London): Greysteel (1906); Duke or Devil (1909); The Tempest (April 17, 1920); Prince Ferelon (1921; received the Carnegie Award); Macbeth, 4-act opera (MS); King Alfred and the Cakes. OTHER: Ode on Time for Soloists, Chorus, and Orch., after Milton; 3 Short Odes; Variations for Orch. on Old King Cole; Piano Concerto; Piano Trio; String Quartet; waltzes for piano; songs.
