Fougstedt Nils-Eric

Fougstedt, Nils-Eric, Finnish conductor and composer; b. Raisio, near Turku, May 24, 1910; d. Helsinki, April 12, 1961. He studied composition in Helsinki with Furuhjelm, in Italy with Carlo Felice Boghen, and in Berlin with Max Trapp. Upon returning to Finland in 1932, he lectured in theory at the Music Inst. in Helsinki. He was also active as a conductor, and led the Finnish Radio Orch. from 1951 until his death.

(1938,1949); String Quartet (1940); Cello Concerto (1942); Piano Concerto (1944); Tulukset (The Tinderbox), cantata after Hans Christian Andersen (1950); Trittico sinfonico (1958); many choruses and songs.
