Forsyth, Cecil (b Greenwich, 1870; d NY, 1941). Eng. violist, conductor, composer, and musicologist. Violist in London orchs. Settled in NY 1914. Comps. incl. operas, va. conc., setting of Keats's Ode to a Nightingale for bar. and orch., masses, part-songs, chamber mus., and songs. Author of several books incl. History of Music (1916, with Stanford) and valuable treatise on orchestration (1914).
