Ferrani, (real name, Zanaggio) Cesira
Ferrani (real name, Zanaggio), Cesira, admired Italian soprano; b. Turin, May 8, 1863; d. Pollone, May 4, 1943. She studied with Antonietta Fricci in Turin, where she made her operatic debut in 1887 at the Teatro Carignano as Gilda. She then sang at the Teatro Regio there, where she created the roles of Manon Lescaut (Feb. 1, 1893) and Mimi (Feb. 1, 1896). From 1894 to 1909 she was a principal singer at Milan’s La Scala. Among her other notable roles were Elsa, Eva, and Mélisande.
