Escobedo, Bartolomé de

Escobedo, Bartolomé de, Spanish singer and composer; b. Zamora province, c. 1500; d. between March 21 and Aug. 11, 1563. From 1536 to 1541, and again from 1545 to 1554, he was a singer in the Papal Choir at Rome. He was a judge in the famous dispute between Nicola Vicentino and Vincento Lusitano (1551) over the qualities of Greek modes. He composed 2 masses and a number of motets.
