Erdélyi, Miklós

Erdélyi, Miklós, Hungarian conductor; b. Budapest, Feb. 9, 1928; d. there, Sept. 2, 1993. He studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest (1946–50) with Ferencsik (conducting), Zalanfy (organ), and Kokai (composition). After making his conducting debut in Budapest in 1947, he was music director of the Hungarian Radio Choir there (1950–52). In 1951 he became a repetiteur at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, where he was a conductor from 1959. He also appeared as a guest conductor in various European music centers, and in 1972 made his U.S. debut as a guest conductor with the San Antonio Sym. Orch. He was the author of Schubert (Budapest, 1963; 2nd ed., 1979).
