Edson, Lewis
Edson, Lewis, American composer; b. Bridgewater, Mass., Jan. 22,1748; d. Woodstock, N.Y., 1820. Originally a blacksmith by trade, he became very active as a music teacher. He went to N.Y. in 1776, and in 1817 he moved to Woodstock. With Thomas Seymour he compiled The New York Collection of Sacred Music. Among his compositions were the hymn tunes Bridgewater, Lenox, and Greenfield.
