Eberwein, Traugott (Maximilian)
Eberwein, Traugott (Maximilian), German violinist and composer, brother of (Franz) Carl (Adal-bert) Eberwein; b. Weimar, Oct. 27,1775; d. Rudolstadt, Dec. 2, 1831. He studied violin with his father in Weimar, where he joined the ducal orch. as a youth. He then studied theory with Kenzen in Frankfurt am Main, violin with Schick in Mainz, and counterpoint with Kittel in Erfurt. In 1793–94 he gave concerts in Germany, France, and Italy, and also studied theory in Naples with Fenaroli. He then became court musician to Prince Ludwig Friedrich von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, later becoming one of his chamber musicians (1810) and eventually his Kapellmeister (1817). He wrote the Singspiels Claudine von Villa Bella (1815) and Der Jahrmarkt zu Plundersweilen (1818), to texts by his friend Goethe, orch. pieces, and sacred works.
