Eberlin (Eberle), Johann Ernst
Eberlin (Eberle), Johann Ernst, German composer; b. Jettingen, Bavaria, March 27, 1702; d. Salzburg, June 19, 1762. He settled in Salzburg, where he studied at the Benedictine Univ. (1721–23). He was fourth organist (1726–29) and principal organist and choirmaster (1727–49) at the Cathedral, then court and cathedral Kapellmeister (1749–62). Anton Adlgasser was his pupil and son-in-law. Among his compositions are a pastoral play, Daphne (1758), 61 school plays, intermezzos, 3 syms., much keyboard music (especially for organ), and much sacred music, including 21 oratorios and about 70 masses.
