Du¨rr, Alfred
Du¨rr, Alfred, distinguished German musicologist and editor; b. Berlin, March 3, 1918. He was educated at the Univ. of Göttingen (Ph.D., 1950, with the diss. Studien über die frühen Kantaten Johann Sebastian Backs; publ. in Leipzig, 1951). In 1951 he became a research assistant at the Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Inst. in Göttingen. From 1962 to 1981 he served as its director, and continued to be associated with it until 1983. He was a member of the Akademie der Wissenschaften in Göttingen from 1976. He was an ed. of the Bach-Jahrbuch and also ed. works for the Bach Neue Ausgabe samtlicher Werke. With Y. Kobayashi, he ed. the Kleine Ausgabe of Schmieder’s Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis (Wiesbaden, 1998). In 1988 he was elected a corresponding member of the American Musicological Soc.
