Drysdale, (George John) Learmont
Drysdale, (George John) Learmont, Scottish composer; b. Edinburgh, Oct. 3, 1866; d. there, June 18, 1909. He was a pupil at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and winner of the Lucas prize for composition (1890). He composed the orch. overtures Tarn O’Shunter (1890; awarded a prize by the Glasgow Soc. of Musicians) and Herondean (1893), as well as two operas, The Red Spider (1898) and Fionn and Tera (1909), and some choral works.
