Cuclin, Dimitrie

Cuclin, Dimitrie , Romanian composer and pedagogue; b. Galati, April 5, 1885; d. Bucharest, Feb. 7, 1978. He studied with Kiriac, Castaldi, and Dinicu at the Bucharest Cons. (1904–07), and then in Paris at the Cons, and at the Schola Cantorum with Widor and d’Indy (1908–14). After teaching at the Brooklyn Coll. of Music (1922–30), he returned to his homeland to serve as a prof. at the Bucharest Cons. (1930–8). His prolific output reflected the influence of the French and German Romantic tradition.
