Cordon, Norman
Cordon, Norman , American baritone; b. Washington, N.C., Jan. 20, 1904; d. Chapel Hill, N.C., March 1, 1964. He attended the Fishburne Military School, and later studied at the Univ. of N.C. and at the Nashville Cons, of Music. He was a voice student of Gaetano de Lucas and Hadley Outland. He sang with the San Carlo Opera Co.; in 1933 he made his debut as Scarpia at the Civic Opera in Chicago, of which he was a member until 1936; on May 13, 1936, he made his Metropolitan Opera debut in N.Y. as Monterone, remaining on its roster until 1946; he also appeared with the San Francisco Opera, the Cincinnati Summer Opera, and on Broadway.
