Campos-Parsi, Héctor

Campos-Parsi, Héctor, Puerto Rican composer; b. Ponce, Oct. 1, 1922. He studied in Ponce, then at the Univ. of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras (1938–44). After taking courses at the New England Cons, of Music in Boston (1947–50) and with Copland and Messiaen at the Berkshire Music Center in Tanglewood (summers 1949–50), he studied with Boulanger in Fontainebleau (1951–53). Returning to Puerto Rico in 1955, he was active as a composer, poet, journalist, music critic, television commentator, and concert manager. In some of his works, he utilized Puerto Rican folk music. In other pieces, he embraced aleatory procedures and electronics.
