Camporese, Violante
Camporese, Violante, Italian soprano; b. Rome, 1785; d. there, 1839. She studied in Paris with Crescentini, and sang before Napoleon. On Jan. 11, 1817, she made her London debut at the King’s Theatre as Cima-rosa’s Penelope, and continued to sing there until 1823 in such roles as Donna Anna, Dorabella, and Susanna. From 1817 to 1829 she appeared at Milan’s La Scala, where she created the role of Bianca in Rossini’s Bianca e Faliero (Dec. 26, 1819). She was held in high esteem as a Mozartian.
