Bree, Jean Bernard van (Johannes Bernardus van)
Bree, Jean Bernard van (Johannes Bernardus van), Dutch violinist and composer; b. Amsterdam, Jan. 29, 1801; d. there, Feb. 14, 1857. He was a pupil of Bertelman. In 1820–21 he played in the orch. of the Théâtre Français in Amsterdam, and in 1830 he became conductor of the Felix Meritis Soc. In 1841 he founded the Cecilia Soc. in Amsterdam, and later he became director of the Music School of the Soc. for the Promotion of Music.
