Boyle, George Frederick , American pianist, teacher, and composer; b. Sydney, Australia, June 29, 1886; d. Philadelphia, June 20, 1948. He received his early musical training from his parents, and in 1905 went to Berlin, where he took piano lessons with Busoni. He began his career as an accompanist. In 1910 he settled in the U.S., where he taught piano at the Peabody Cons, of Music in Baltimore (1910–22), the Curtis Inst. of Music in Philadelphia (1924–26), and the Inst. of Musical Art in N.Y. (1927–39). He wrote Aubade for Orch. (St. Louis, March 5, 1916), Piano Concerto (Worcester Festival, Sept. 28, 1911), Cello Concerto (Washington, D.C., Feb. 7, 1918), 3 piano trios, Violin Sonata, Viola Sonata, Cello Sonata, about 100 piano pieces, and 50 songs.
