Baranović, Kreŝimir

Baranović, Kreŝimir, pedagogue, and composer; b. èibenik, July 25, 1894; d. Belgrade, Sept. 17, 1975. He studied piano, theory, and composition in Zagreb and in Vienna. He was a theater conductor in Zagreb (1915–27) and toured with Pavlova’s ballet group (1927–28). From 1929 to 1940 he was director of the Zagreb Opera. He was a prof. at the Belgrade Academy of Music from 1946 to 1961, and he also was conductor of the Belgrade Phil, from 1952 to 1961.
