Mildenburg, Anna von (b Vienna, 1872; d Vienna, 1947). Austrian soprano. Début Hamburg 1895 (Brünnhilde) under Mahler, whose mistress she was for a time and about whom she wrote a valuable book of memoirs. Became eminent in Wagner: Bayreuth 1897 (Kundry in Parsifal), CG 1906 (Isolde, and Elisabeth in Tannhäuser). Sang at Vienna Opera in Mahler's directorship and was regular member of co. 1908–16. Outstanding Klytemnästra in Elektra (first London Klytemnästra, 1910). Prof. of singing, Munich Acad. of Mus. from 1921 and stage dir. Nat. Th., Munich, 1921–6. Salzburg Fest. début 1922 as actress, recital 1927. Last appearance, Augsburg 1930 (Klytemnästra). Taught in Berlin 1938. Married the writer Hermann Bahr, 1909, with whom she wrote Bayreuth und das Wagnertheater (Leipzig, 1910).
