Andriessen, Willem (Christiaan Nicolaas)
Andriessen, Willem (Christiaan Nicolaas), Dutch pianist, teacher, and composer, brother of Hendrik (Franciscus) Andriessen and uncle of Jurriaan Andriessen and Louis (Joseph) Andriessen; b. Haarlem, Oct. 25, 1887; d. Amsterdam, March 29, 1964. He studied piano and composition at the Amsterdam Cons. (1903–08). After teaching piano at The Hague Cons. (1910–17) and the Rotterdam Cons., he served as director of the Amsterdam Cons. (1937–53). He also was active as a pianist. Among his works were a Piano Concerto (1908), Hei, ’t was de Mei for Orch. (1912), a Mass for Soloist, Chorus, and Orch., songs, and piano pieces.
