When Brendan Met Trudy
When Brendan Met Trudy ★★★ 2000
Irish romantic comedy by the writer of such standout novels as “The Commitments” and “The Snapper.” Brendan (McDonald) is somewhat of a pansy-boy who attracts his polar opposite Trudy (Montgomery), a street-smart sort of girl and falls in love. Brendan, a straitlaced schoolteacher, soon learns that Trudy moonlights as a thief, and after the initial shock wears off, joins his outlaw honey in some good old-fashioned felonious fun. The true fun of the film, though, is its constant classic film references, such as when a misadventure lands Brendan in the gutter, he is reminded of William Holden in “Sunset Boulevard.” Even if you're not a film buff, thought, you'll still enjoy this offbeat comic romp. 95m/C VHS, DVD . IR GB Peter McDonald, Flora Montgomery, Marie Mullen, Pauline McLynn, Don Wycherley; D: Kieron J. Walsh; W: Roddy Doyle; C: Ashley Rowe; M: Richard Hartley.
