Treasure Island 1999
Treasure Island ★★½ 1999
Near the end of WWII, two officers of the fictional intelligence compound called “Treasure Island” are given a dead body and a covert assignment: construct a fake “backstory.” When dumped in the ocean, it is hoped that the false information will send the Japanese in the wrong direction. The two officers find themselves consumed by visions of the body, which seems to show up everywhere. Challenging and ambitious puzzle of a film which is filled with coded messages, encrypted dialogue, and implied meanings. Certainly not for all audiences, but a funny and fascinating exercise in style and cinematic invention. 83m/ B DVD . Lance Baker, Nick Offerman, Jonah Blechman; D: Scott King; W: Scott King; C: Scott King, Phillip Glau; M: Chris Anderson.
