Move Over, Darling ★★½ Something's Gotta Give 1963

Remake of 1938's “My Favorite Wife” has widower Garner having his wife Ellen (Day) declared legally dead five years after a plane crash. He remarries, only to have Ellen turn up on his mother's doorstep. Turns out she was stranded on a desert island for those years, and she wasn't alone. Fluffy but enjoyable Day vehicle is the second attempt to remake “Wife,” after the ill-fated “Something's Gotta Give,” the film Marilyn Monroe was working on when she died. Garner and Day are fine, but are often upstaged by the excellent supporting cast. 103m/C VHS, DVD . Doris Day, James Garner, Polly Bergen, Thelma Ritter, Chuck Connors, Fred Clark, Don Knotts, Edgar Buchanan, Elliott Reid, John Astin, Pat Harrington, Eddie Quillan, Max (Casey Adams) Showalter, Alvy Moore; D: Michael Gordon; W: Hal Kanter, Leo McCarey, Jack Sher; C: Daniel F. Fapp; M: Lionel Newman. Golden Globes ‘63: Actress—Mus./Comedy (Day).
