Enchanted
Enchanted ★★ 2007 (PG)
Princess Giselle (Adams) idly sings in wait for “true love's kiss” to rescue her. Vain Prince Edward (Marsden) hears her love song and falls fast, but meddling Queen Narissa (Sarandon) thinks they'll steal her queendom away so she banishes the princess to New York by tossing her down a wishing well (the film turns from animated to real once they hit the city). Divorce lawyer Robert (Dempsey) and his daughter rescue Giselle from the streets of Manhattan, where she promptly makes herself a new dress from his curtains and calls on her animal friends to clean the apartment. Edward has followed and is combing the streets gallantly searching for Giselle; meanwhile, Robert is falling for the princess. It would be a generally happy and fun little film if it ended about there, but no—the queen has more mayhem to unleash. Some painfully slow and cliche moments, but Adams, Marsden, and Dempsey keep up the charm. 107m/C DVD . US Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Timothy Spall, Idina Menzel, Susan Sarandon, Rachel Covey; D: Kevin Lima; W: Bill Kelly; C: Don Burgess; M: Alan Menken; Nar: Julie Andrews.
