Daddy Long Legs ★★★ 1955

Far from the great musicals, but enjoyable. An eccentric millionaire glimpses a French orphan and becomes her anonymous benefactor. Her musing over his identity spawns some surreal (often inexplicable) dance numbers, but love conquers all, even lesser Johnny Mercer songs. From a story by Jean Webster, also done in 1919 with Mary Pickford, 1931 with Janet Gaynor and 1935 with Shirley Temple as “Curly Top.” ♫Daddy Long Legs; Something's Got To Give; Slu-efoot; Dream; History of the Beat; C-A-T Spells Cat; Welcome Egghead. 126m/C VHS, DVD . Fred Astaire, Leslie Caron, Terry Moore, Thelma Ritter, Fred Clark, Charlotte Austin, Larry Keating; D: Jean Negulesco; C: Leon Sham-roy; M: Alex North.
